Though, people believe their drinking level is being balanced with smoke and they even feel better when they do both together. A study published newly in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs has been claiming that smoking increases the risk of hangover.
The reason being held responsible is the chemical acetaldehyde, the report says. It is being said by the team from Brown University in the US that smoke contains the same and when a person drinks alcohol, the chemical is formed as well in the tissues. This excess of chemical increases risk for nasty hangover symptoms.
"At the same number of drinks, people who smoke more that day are more likely to have a hangover and have more intense hangovers", lead author Damaris Rohsenow was quoted as saying. Other factors like if students used drugs in the past were also considered in the study.
Another study has released different reason, but same result that smoking and drinking together released increased levels of dopamine, which intensifies hangover. Dopamine is a "feel-good" brain chemical, the report finds.
