Extroversion Gives Gorillas Extra Years to Live

As reported by a recent research, Gorillas live a longer life if they possess extrovert nature unlike their introvert counterparts.

http://topnews.ae/images/Gorillas_0.jpg The apes were studied for 18 years in a row, after which the research derived the results. It said that the extrovert Gorillas lived some 10 years longer than their shy peers. Normally, Gorillas live for 35 to 40 years on average.
The results are pretty similar to that of humans. Being friendly, optimistic, laughing out loudly, being active and stay easy going helps to remain healthy in the old age. Similar behaviors were possessed by gorillas.
The study helped in understanding the effect of personality traits on the health of apes and ourselves too. Gorillas and humans had common ancestors about 10 million years ago and their DNAs are closely related to humans.
The research team studied behaviors of 283 gorillas in zoos of America from 1993 to 2011 and 119 of these gorillas died in the time and they were reported two to 55 years of age.
"A large body of literature indicates that who we are or our `character' has major consequences related to our health", said Dr. Alex Weiss, of the University of Edinburgh. The study was published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.
